Job Description
Hi there! We’re looking for a Senior Character Animator with significant experience shipping games professionally, who is self-directed and excellent at collaborating across disciplines. We consider this a senior role due to the emphasis on understanding priorities at the project level and aligning the efforts of the modeling, game design and cinematics teams.
Get Set Games is working on a project with Gearbox Publishing for leading consoles and PC that breaks new ground and we’ll need a Senior Character Animator with a breadth of knowledge working in the games industry.
You’ll be creating core combat and movement animations for hero characters and major enemies as well as key cinematics within the game. You will also be coordinating with technical animators, effects artists, the narrative team and game designers to deliver a unified and exciting experience for players. You’ll be a key contributor to our team, and we’ll always support your continued growth.
People at Get Set Games
The foundations of the company were laid almost a decade ago, which is an eternity in the games industry. We attribute our longevity to humility and mutual respect amongst team members. Folks here balance work and life and we solve problems proactively.
Values
Aligning with our values is a prerequisite for becoming a great addition here.
We Value Artistry – The goal of our art and technology is to deliver excellence, originality, and beauty to our players.
We Value People - Diversity and inclusivity promote innovation and strength. At Get Set Games we believe you should be your authentic, brilliant self, and we view our players as people, not demographics.
We Value Good Health – Our environment and workplace practices promote emotional and physical wellbeing.
We Value Personal Improvement – Our team members are encouraged to learn, improve, and take and give feedback as adults.
The Most Important Parts of Your Job
Professional experience: You need to be familiar with every phase of getting a game out the door, working with a team from prototype to release. Your team is counting on the fact that you’ve done this before, with skill and commitment.
Self-directed: If your queue is empty you won’t wait for someone to tell you what to work on. You drive your own efforts to learn and grow.
Collaborating across disciplines: You’ll be helping modelers, technical artists and the cinematics team do their job more effectively. You’ll be collecting requirements, making revisions and helping to guide the stylistic direction of the animation in the game. The importance of great communication can’t be overstated.
The Character Animation Domain
Characters and enemies in the game will be highly expressive and dynamic, in the vein of modern animated features. Animations, especially for characters, should be clear and extremely responsive but not mechanical. We aim to bring life to characters with secondary motion (cloth, accessories etc.) and have a fair amount of leeway stylistically in order to “sell” movements. We may utilize motion capture in a hybrid workflow, but knowledge of classical animation will be a strong bonus. You will work with other animators and help guide the general approach to the animation workflow. We operate in the UE4 environment and we will be delivering on multiple hardware platforms. Experience with the UE4 animation framework will be a plus.
