Job Description
Hi there! We’re looking for a Senior Character Concept Artist with significant experience shipping games professionally, who is self-directed and excellent at collaborating across disciplines. We consider this a senior role due to the emphasis on understanding priorities at the project level and aligning the efforts of the art, design and cinematics teams.
Get Set Games is working on a project with Gearbox Publishing for leading consoles and PC that breaks new ground and we’ll need a Senior Character Concept Artist with a breadth of knowledge working in the games industry.
You’ll be conceptualizing player characters, enemies and NPCs, working on game-wide look-development for character style, equipment, and clothing. You will be creating concepts for major enemies and bosses in the game, and you will work with the cinematics team on character design considerations for narrative sequences. You will also be coordinating with others on the concept art team to deliver a unified vision for the game. You’ll be a key contributor to our team, and we’ll always support your continued growth.
People at Get Set Games
The foundations of the company were laid almost a decade ago, which is an eternity in the games industry. We attribute our longevity to humility and mutual respect amongst team members. Folks here balance work and life and we solve problems proactively.
Values
Aligning with our values is a prerequisite for becoming a great addition here.
We Value Artistry – The goal of our art and technology is to deliver excellence, originality, and beauty to our players.
We Value People – Diversity and inclusivity promote innovation and strength. At Get Set Games we believe you should be your authentic, brilliant self, and we view our players as people, not demographics.
We Value Good Health – Our environment and workplace practices promote emotional and physical wellbeing.
We Value Personal Improvement – Our team members are encouraged to learn, improve, and take and give feedback as adults.
The Most Important Parts of Your Job
Professional experience: You need to be familiar with every phase of getting a game out the door, working with a team from prototype to release. Your team is counting on the fact that you’ve done this before, with skill and commitment.
Self-directed: If your queue is empty you won’t wait for someone to tell you what to work on. You drive your own efforts to learn and grow.
Collaborating across disciplines: You’ll be helping modelers, game designers and the cinematics team do their job more effectively. You’ll be collecting requirements, making revisions and helping to guide the stylistic direction of the character design in the game. The importance of great communication can’t be overstated.
The Character Concept Art Domain
You will be creating character concepts for an action game with high character mobility. Characters will need to work effectively both for gameplay and in-game cinematics. A solid understanding of modeling requirements and limitations, the ability to create clear and understandable turnarounds and coordinate the work of other concept artists will be a prerequisite. A familiarity with stylized rendering will be a plus.
